Delete Your Facebook Friends For A Whopper

Burger King is so clever. They've launched a new social media marketing campaign called Whopper Sacrifice that requires interested customers to install a Facebook App and then delete 10 of their friends in return for a free Whopper voucher. At the time of this writing, nearly 11,500 friends have been sacrificed.

Now which 10 friends of mine are getting the ax?

Twitter Spoof Site Shows Tweets of Historical Figures

Historical Tweets features tweets of famous people at key moments of history in an effort to make the past more palatable to a modern generation used the getting their information in tiny clips and sound bites.

The website states, "Books have been ruining history. So many unnecessary words. Now, with Historical Tweets, history’s most amazing men and women can be fully understood, a mere 140 characters at a time."

Funny stuff.

Apple Embraces Facebook and Flickr

During yesterday's keynote at MacWorld, Apple introduced the new iLife '09 suite which includes social networking site sharing tools for the first time. iPhoto now contains simple one-click-to-share buttons for publishing to Facebook and Flickr. The new iWeb offers a publishing feature that will automatically add posts to your Facebook profile.

It's nice to see that Apple understands that people want to share their photos easily on the web - without the need to download additional plugins or purchase MobileMe.

Myspace Filled with Teen Sex, Drugs and Violence

The Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescents released a study today involving teenagers and social networking sites. "Display of Health Risk Behaviors on MySpace by Adolescents" showed that 24% of the self-described 18-year-olds with public MySpace profiles referenced sex, 41.1% referenced substance use, and 14.4% referenced violence.

Honestly, I find these percentages to be low. As someone who has spent a great deal of time on Myspace on behalf of clients, I would have assumed that these numbers would be much larger.
